It's unfortunate how many people share the same story: You took lessons when you were young, and somewhere between the scales, the pieces, and the teacher who made you feel bad for not practicing enough, turned the thing you really enjoyed into a chore. And so, you quit. Most people do.
But here's the exciting truth: It wasn't you. It was the method. You don't need a conservatory syllabus to play the music you love. You need chords (aka different finger shapes), a decent ear, a bit of theory that makes sense for your goals, and a teacher with an enthusiastic, creative approach to meet you where you are.
That's what these lessons are.

Chasing a Conservatory certificate on purpose? I've coached students to Grade 10 and I'm happy to get you there without the unnecessary stress and misery.

Hi, I'm Greg.
I'm an Ontario Certified Teacher (OCT) with a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Piano (Honours), and I've taught music in Ontario secondary school classrooms and privately for years: everyone from students chasing Grade 10 Conservatory certificates to adults learning to sing while they play piano. I've also coached the Western University Big Band, various high school jazz and wind ensembles, and local youth rock bands.
Outside of teaching, I'm a gigging musician, a recording artist with over 500,000 streams on my original music, a regularly hired studio player here in Ontario, and I've performed on stages like London Music Hall. I teach music the way musicians actually use it.
And the part that matters for you: I went through the conservatory grind myself, all the way to Grade 10. I know which parts of that system are worth keeping, and which parts made you quit. Helping discouraged learners get unstuck and rediscover their passion for music is my favourite part about this job and the very reason I do it. If a bad experience convinced you that you're "not musical," I'd like the chance to prove otherwise.

How it works

$60, no pressure. We talk about the music you love, we play, and we figure out where you want to go. If it's not a fit, it's on me.

Get a plan that's yours.
After the first lesson I'll build you a simple weekly plan around your goals, not a syllabus.

Play the music you love.
Weekly lessons, online or in person. Cancel any time, and no recitals unless you want one.

A plan every week.
A clear, written practice plan after each lesson, with extra resources whenever you need them.

Midweek voice-memo support.
Stuck between lessons? Send me a voice memo or a text and I'll get you unstuck before your practice week stalls.

A recording of every song.
Real recording equipment from day one. Every song you finish, we record it properly, so you keep proof of how far you've come.

Your music, not a syllabus.
Every lesson is built around the songs you actually want to play. Reading and theory come in only as they serve that.
Your first lesson is $60. After that, lessons are $100 for 50 minutes, online or in person.
Summer special: the next two students get 30% off, $70 a lesson instead of the usual $100, locked in for as long as we keep working together.
Come to your first lesson, and if it's not a fit, you don't pay for it.
Prefer to learn from your own home? In-home lessons in London on Wednesdays are $120 for 50 minutes. Mention it in your email and we'll set it up.
Life happens. Give me 24 hours' notice and rescheduling is free.
Current openings: early mornings before work (6–7am weekdays), Monday/Tuesday/Thursday evenings, Wednesday afternoon and evening slots, and Saturday mornings.
